Scholarship Program

Basin Electric offers more than 170 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 for each school year. This program is for dependent children of member cooperative employees, member cooperative consumers and children of Basin Electric employees.

Scholarships for dependent children of Basin Electric and subsidiary employees
Basin Electric offers scholarships for dependent children of employees of Basin Electric and its subsidiaries who are in college or will be entering college in the fall.

Twenty $1,000 scholarships go to children of Basin Electric or its subsidiary employees. Five of the 20 scholarships are designated for qualified applicants who plan to attend a certified vocational or technical school, and five of the 20 are designated for qualified applicants who plan to achieve an engineering degree. Up to two awards are designated for students majoring in information services and telecommunications. Scholarship America will process applications and select the scholarship recipients for Basin Electric.

Scholarship eligibility requirements
To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be:

  • Dependent children of full-time or part-time Basin Electric employees and subsidiaries. Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or step-children living in the employee's household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Age 25 or under and a U.S. citizen.
  • A high school senior or graduate who is enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.

The parent of the applicant must be either a full-time or part-time employee of Basin Electric Power Cooperative or its subsidiaries on the application deadline date.

Applications can be obtained on Basin Electric's employee intranet, Inside Basin.

Scholarships for member-cooperative employees and consumers
Basin Electric also offers 20 $1,000 scholarships to children of member cooperative employees; and one $1,000 scholarship will be designated for each member cooperative to award to a dependent of a consumer-member. Basin Electric processes the member cooperative and consumer applications.
