Basin Electric offers a competitive pay and benefits package and career growth opportunities. The cooperative has a generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday package, as well as 401(k), pension, medical, dental, flex spending accounts, life and accidental death insurance, and long term disability. The cooperative also offers paid education on a sliding scale determined by grades. When hired, your relocation costs may be covered. Basin Electric also has daycare spots available through a local provider (employee paid - availability limited) and offers military support, cancer insurance, on-site medical services, an employee assistance program, wellness activities, on-site fitness centers, and paid professional memberships.

Medical insurance

401(k) plan

  • Two options available: Traditional 401(k) and Roth 401(k)
  • Basin Electric contributes/matches a percentage of employee contribution based on employment status
  • A loan option is available

Pension program

  • Qualified regular full-time and part-time union employees begin accruing pension credit after meeting the initial eligibility period
  • Normal retirement age is 62
  • Retirement benefits are calculated using a predefined benefit formula
  • Premiums paid by Employer

Cancer care / intensive care plans

  • Supplemental insurance for expenses incurred either due to cancer or extended stays in a hospital intensive care unit
  • Different options available
  • Premiums paid by employee through payroll deduction

Dental insurance

  • Two options of coverage available
  • Coverage starts on the first of the month following three months of employment
  • Premiums paid by Employer for Denta 50 plan
  • Employee pays difference in premium for Denta 150 plan

Vision insurance

  • Coverage starts on the first of the month following the first day of employment
  • Premiums paid by employee through payroll deduction

Flexible spending accounts

  • Two separate accounts: Dependent Care Account and Health Care Account
  • Dependent Care Accounts are used to pay for child care expenses while employee and spouse are working
  • Health Care Accounts are used to pay out-of-pocket expenses such as deductibles, co-insurances, and other medical expenses not covered by insurance
  • Contributions are pretax and begin the first of the month following date of employment

Dependent life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

  • Coverage available for employee, spouse, and eligible dependent children.
  • Coverage starts the first of the month following three months of employment
  • Premiums paid by employee through payroll deduction

Life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

  • Coverage starts on the first of the month following three months of employment
  • Employer provides 2X coverage at no cost to the employee
  • Employee can purchase up to 3X additional coverage through payroll deduction
  • Coverage maximum of $1,000,000 for each benefit.

Long-term disability insurance

  • Premiums paid by employer at no cost to the employee

Work/life balance

  • Flexible work schedules are available for many employees
  • Child care, through a partnership with YMCA
  • You are encouraged to be a part of your community through volunteer work, serving on Boards and more
  • Sports sponsorships and race reimbursements
  • Wellness programs, on-site fitness center (see more below)
  • Supports youth through paid internship programs, summer work program and Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Employee Assistance Program

  • Offers confidential help in areas of personal concern and difficulty
  • Includes emotional crisis; individual, marital, and parenting concerns; financial and legal difficulties; chemical addiction evaluation; and work-related problems
  • The cooperative will provide up to eight appointments with an employee assistance counselor for each problem per year

Safety gear

  • Basin Electric provides safety gear free of charge to employees
  • If the job requires fire resistant (FR) clothing, the cooperative provides a budget for FR every year
  • If the job requires steel toed boots, the cooperative will pay for a new pair each year
  • Safety glasses and ear plugs are available to all employees to take home to use with their families

Educational assistance

  • Full-time employees who complete undergraduate course work at an accredited educational institution in an approved program may receive up to 100 percent education reimbursement
  • Part-time employees may be eligible for pro-rated reimbursement

Exercise Equipment / PC loan program

  • Employees purchase their own computer systems or exercise equipment and, based on qualified purchases, repay the loan per the terms of the loan agreement through payroll deduction

Wellness program

  • Basin Electric and its subsidiaries promote a total lifestyle approach to employee wellness by providing blood screenings, flu shots, fitness facilities, on-site clinics, and wellness and health education programs
  • Employees can take walks during breaks on designated walking paths
  • There is a doctor on staff who is available for office visits and through video chats, and who can prescribe medication
