A commitment to community is a big part of being a cooperative. That's why employees at Basin Electric take great pride in supporting United Way and other local charities through the annual Commitment to Community Campaign.
This year, employees raised $36,575 through pledges plus $7,056 in additional donations. With Basin Electric’s match, this brought the donation to $87,271.
As part of this year’s fundraising efforts, employees could participate in Candy for a Cause and send a candy bar to a coworker. Employees purchased 10,812 candy bars for $2 each, bringing in an additional $21,624.
Another part of the fundraiser was a silent auction with items donated from employees. This year’s silent auction reached a record high, raising $10,889.
An additional $20,990 was donated to the United Way and other local charities through the cooperative’s Casual for a Cause fundraiser, where employees make contributions and are allowed to wear jeans to work each day.
“The team at Basin Electric demonstrates its commitment to community every day by providing reliable and affordable power, products, and services produced in an environmentally responsible manner, but once a year we take the extra step with our Commitment to Community Campaign in order to raise financial resources for our communities,” says Todd Brickhouse, Basin Electric CEO and general manager. “The campaign is a great way for Basin Electric and each of us to fulfill our civic responsibilities and strengthen our communities, which is one of Basin Electric’s six Cooperative Values. This year, we raised $140,765, which is a nearly 22% increase over our 2023 campaign. I congratulate Team Basin on this outstanding performance and thank everyone for their support.”
Employees at facilities located in a community without a United Way chapter designated a local charity or nonprofit organization to receive their pledges. Funds pledged by employees located in a community served by United Way will be directed to the local United Way and agencies supported by it.
