As an additional safety measure, a Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) advisory team has been assembled at Antelope Valley Station (Antelope Valley).
LOTO is a set of procedures and safety measures that prevent injuries from machinery unexpectedly starting up, energizing, or releasing stored energy.
The advisory team was formed to look at Antelope Valley’s current LOTO procedure and process to ensure alignment with other Basin Electric facilities, maintain best industry practices, and comply with OSHA standards.
“Management has given the LOTO team the autonomy to maintain efficient, common practices our employees and contractors are accustomed to while maintaining all regulatory and company requirements,” said Travis Watson, safety coordinator at Antelope Valley Station and LOTO advisory team member.
The Antelope Valley LOTO advisory group consists of seven active members and has support from three superintendents. Members of the group represent both hourly and salaried employees.
“The Leland Olds Station started the very first LOTO advisory group, and we are utilizing the groundwork they created when they implemented their updated LOTO program in 2023. It’s been beneficial to the Antelope Valley LOTO team to build upon their success.”
