Kayla Hieb, Basin Electric vice president of Human Resources, was selected by the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC as one of the 2023 top 20 professionals in Bismarck-Mandan under age 40.
The list is the Chamber’s way of spotlighting the incredible, young talent found throughout the business community. “The Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC is proud to recognize so many young leaders as they move on to be great forces in their communities and in the state of North Dakota,” says Cathryn Sprynczynatyk Anderson, director of leadership Bismarck Mandan at the Chamber. Hieb was selected for her leadership, professional development, and commitment to the community.
Hieb considers herself “a businessperson who happens to be obsessed with Human Resources.” She has held roles in project management, sales, and human resources throughout her career, her favorite being in human resources.
Hieb’s personal motto is to do her very best, even when no one is watching. “I have high expectations of myself and of those around me,” she says. She encourages young professionals to take on challenging and even scary assignments. “Taking on the most challenging roles, those that I didn’t know much about or that made me uncomfortable, allowed me to grow as a professional and round out my skillset.”
Ryan Heinsohn, BEK Connect product manager at BEK Communications, nominated Kayla for the award. “Kayla is extremely professional and communicates well with business leaders as well as employees on the ground level," Heinsohn says. "She gets the job done by putting the time in and seeing things through and is not afraid of a hard day’s work. Spend 10 minutes with Kayla and you will quickly realize that she is a hidden gem in our community and is well deserving of this recognition.”
Hieb participates in the Chamber Workforce Committee on a consistent basis and says being nominated for the award is an honor. “I was very surprised and honored by the nomination as there are so many impressive professionals in this community. I am thankful for the opportunity to live and work in Bismarck/Mandan. It’s a great community and has provided me with both professional and personal development opportunities,” she says.
