Basin Electric's Charitable Giving Program disperses donations yearly to charities located in the membership's nine-state territory. One of the recent donations was a team effort with Class C member Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp), located in Sundance, Wyoming, where $35,000 was given to the Food Bank of Wyoming for their September Hungry Awareness Month fundraising campaign.

The PRECorp Foundation, the charitable foundation for PRECorp, received the grant request in which they facilitated $20,000 from their general donation fund. Another $10,000 was secured from a rural cooperative business lender, CoBank, through their Sharing Success Program. Basin Electric provided the last $5,000 needed to reach the goal of $35,000, the largest one-time donation the PRECorp Foundation has secured since its founding in 2007.

The September campaign will highlight how the Food Bank of Wyoming is meeting its challenges of rising food and freight costs, a decrease in donated food from retailers and distributors, and an increase in households needing assistance.

"We're grateful for the PRECorp Foundation's commitment to help us provide needed food to our community," says Rachel Bailey, Food Bank of Wyoming executive director. "We are committed to making food security a reality for every Wyomingite so they can be productive, successful, and resilient citizens."

Since its formation in 2007, the PRECorp Foundation has awarded more than $2.2 million to charitable organizations in every county of PRECorp's service territory.
