Amanda Dvorak, Basin's Backyard Garden veggie taxi driver and Basin Electric records coordinator, brought her children David and Grace along on her route to Heaven's Helpers Soup Cafe this week.
The crew dropped off 85.4 pounds of zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, squash, melons, apples, and carrots.
"I am trying to teach them different ways on how to help our community (she says of her children). I told them about the soup café and how they always need volunteers. When they get a little bit older we can all go and help serve in the café," Dvorak says. "I also told them I’m helping in the soup café next week, because my employer is seeking volunteers during the lunch rush and it is a really fun time and really rewarding to help out. It is a great thing that Basin Electric allows us to volunteer there."
Dvorak says Heaven's Helpers was making chili when she dropped off the Basin's Backyard Garden donation of fresh, local food. "With some colder temperatures creeping in the fall harvest is coming to an end. Basin's Backyard Garden is a good thing and I hope to see it continue in the future," she says.
