Basin's Backyard Garden made its second donation in 2022 to Welcome House, an agency serving homeless individuals and families in Bismarck-Mandan.
This week, a bag of garden lettuce was donated by an employee, and the rest of the local veggie haul was purchased from local farmers.
About $35 of lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, radishes, and sprouts came from BisMan Community Food Cooperative, making this week's donation local, from the farmers who grew the food to the store that sold it, according to Tracie Bettenhausen, garden coordinator and director for the food co-op.
Vincent McCloud, Welcome House executive director, says the donation is welcome. “Our families at the Welcome House thank you so much for the fresh garden vegetables," he says. "It is very important for our children and parents to receive healthy food choices, and the fresh produce helps to accomplish that. With rising prices it is very difficult to purchase these items, and we thank you very much for your kindness."
