Survey reveals most valued communications and member services resources provided by Basin Electric

Basin Electric members were asked for feedback about member services and communications/marketing materials currently provided by the cooperative.

Providing value-added services and materials to members is a long-standing goal of Basin Electric’s Member Services and Administration Department, which includes the divisions of communications and strategic planning, and community and member relations.

At the end of 2018, Basin Electric members were asked for feedback about member services and communications/marketing materials currently provided by the cooperative.

“As we move forward with reduced staffing, we want to make sure we’re providing services and materials most valued and used by our members,” said Chris Baumgartner, senior vice president of Members Services and Administration. “Getting our members’ feedback will help us balance their needs with our department resources, which from an employee perspective has been scaled down by almost 50 percent since 2017.”

Survey highlights

Almost half of Basin Electric’s 141 Class A and Class C member co-ops were represented among the survey participants.

The majority of the respondents were employees who serve in a communications or member services role for their co-op. A few general managers also responded.

The results of the survey, revealed the following:

Most valued communications services and materials:

  • Communications and marketing materials (brochures, displays, posters, retractable signs, etc.)
  • Social media content
  • Member communication
  • Advertising resources
  • Graphic design support (logo development, custom design of signs, displays, retractables, etc.)

Most valued member services and programs:

  • Scholarship program
  • Member match program
  • Tours program for members
  • Touchstone Energy reimbursement program
  • Touchstone Energy regional support

The communications and member services departments are evaluating the survey results to determine next steps.

In the short-term, communications has already started expanding the arsenal of social media content it provides to members via the Basin Members website, with more content to be added throughout the year.

Communications and marketing materials are also available on the Members website (log-in needed).
