Basin Electric Power Cooperative plans to construct a coal-based power plant in the Gillette, WY, area to be operational by 2011.
The plant is being constructed to meet growing electricity demand of our members systems throughout nine states, according to Ron Harper, Basin Electric CEO. He says the demand is caused by several factors including rural growth in northeast Wyoming and western South Dakota.
The new plant will have a maximum net generation of 385 megawatts (MW) and will be designed to incorporate advanced environmental control technology. Wyoming Municipal Power Agency of Lusk, WY, has a 7.1 percent ownership share of the Dry Fork Station.
